Hey there! I'm Naomi Fournier, the Modern Milkmaid™ and Artisan Cheesemaker at Birdsong Farm in Enderby, British Columbia.
My life as a milkmaid began with the arrival of my first cow, Blossom, and I quickly fell head-over-hooves in love with her and the Jersey breed. Blossom's first calf was born when I was 15, and I named him Colby. (Who knows, but maybe naming him after a type of cheese was an inkling of my future love for cheese making!) With a fridge filled with fresh Jersey milk and cream, I started making cheese and yogurt for my family and my journey as a cheesemaker began.
Cheese making may be a science, but every time I make a pot of cheese it feels like magic--even after 13 years! So in 2012 I started teaching cheese making workshops to share that magic with cheese lovers in the Okanagan, Shuswap, and Thompson regions of British Columbia.
